SOTO Gallery opens The Weight of Traces, a group exhibition which brings together four interdisciplinary female artists: Ronke Komos, Lola Mariam Alli, Odama Paulcy, and Oluchi Anaghoba. The show runs from September 13 to October 10, 2026, at 10 Omo Osagie Street, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria.
At its core, the exhibition is an exploration of how the past lingers, not as something fixed and complete, but as fragments that keep reshaping how we see ourselves and the world around us. Each artist approaches the idea of the trace from a different angle: spiritual inheritance, personal memory, collective experience, and the quiet rituals of daily life. It is a fitting premise for a group show. Rather than presenting a single perspective, it allows four distinct visual languages to sit side by side, each one tracing memory’s residue in its own way.
Lola Mariam Alli works in abstraction, using coded lines, symbols, symmetry, and gestural marks to confront psychological pressure and resistance; her pieces read less like statements and more like maps of an inner negotiation. Ronke Komos turns toward tradition and cultural continuity, examining how inherited customs persist and evolve across generations. Odama Paulcy considers resilience through brokenness, finding strength not despite fracture but within it. And Oluchi Anaghoba engages memory and identity through preservation, converting lived experience into reflections on cultural and personal remembrance.
Together, their work builds toward a shared argument: that memory does not survive as a clean, unbroken record. It survives in pieces, and it is in those pieces that meaning keeps getting made and remade.
