Apply Now: La Campagne Tropicana Free Art Residency Opens to Nigerian Artists

La Campagne Tropicana

A beach resort in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria, will soon become a studio. La Campagne Tropicana has announced the first edition of its Art Residency, a two-month programme running from 5 February to 4 April 2027 and open to artists and artisans from across Nigeria.

The idea, according to the residency committee, is to bring practitioners together to make new work, exchange ideas and examine how art, culture, place and tourism shape one another. Residents are invited to draw inspiration from the resort and its surrounding landscape while pursuing their own creative interests, making the setting part of the brief rather than simply a backdrop.

The call is broad. Visual and applied artists, traditional craftspeople, designers and practitioners in related fields can apply, provided they are based in Nigeria, will be at least 20 years old when the residency begins and can commit to the full programme dates.

Applicants can propose research, experiments or entirely new work. A finished piece is not required unless it forms part of an individual project agreed with the residency. The programme will conclude with a presentation where residents share their work and ideas.

Support for the residency includes accommodation, meals, travel and local transport support, materials and production support, a stipend, and insurance and healthcare arrangements. Exact amounts and coverage will be provided in writing to selected applicants before they are asked to accept a place. Applicants with accessibility or other support needs are also encouraged to get in touch to discuss arrangements.

Applications close on 30 November 2026. Applicants should send a short biography or CV, a portfolio of recent work, a brief proposal, their location and contact details, and confirmation that they can attend the entire programme to arts@lacampagnetropicana.com. Selection will weigh each applicant's body of work, the strength and feasibility of their proposal, and how well it fits the residency's aims.

Selected residents will receive a detailed programme and a written agreement covering support, facilities, expectations, and the ownership, display and use of work produced during the residency. A place will only be confirmed once those terms have been agreed.

Questions about the residency, or requests for a preliminary visit, can be directed to Reservations@lacampagnetropicana.com or +234 805 222 5226.
