The Precision of Light in the Dark: Inside Yago Sanchez’s Luminous Lagos Exhibition

Yago Sanchez
A brilliant cultural bridge is being built this week in the heart of Lekki. The Integra Arts Space is hosting a spectacular solo art exhibition titled The Precision of Light in the Dark by a Spanish artist, Yago Sanchez.

The exhibition officially opened yesterday, June 17 and runs to June 20, 2026, at Plot 11, Block 29, Mayaki Usman Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, Nigeria.

The artist is expected to be present throughout the exhibition period for discussions and insights into his work. From 10 am to 6 pm daily. Curated by Lola Bashua Art.

Sanchez’s artistry is a masterclass in visual storytelling, utilising crystal mosaic pieces that interact with light in breathtaking ways. The exhibition explores universal themes of hope, contrast, and clarity, challenging viewers to find precision and beauty even in the most obscure corners of human experience. It's an invitation to slow down, observe, and discover the complete picture that emerges from countless fragments.

This international creative exchange brings a fresh, global dimension to the contemporary Lagos art scene.

Sanchez, a self-taught Spanish artist, has dedicated over a decade to exploring the dynamic interplay of light and material. Growing up with an innate fascination for illumination in his native Spain, Sanchez developed a unique artistic language: crystal mosaic. His technique involves meticulously placing thousands of individual crystal pieces onto fabrics, creating artworks that are not static images but living, breathing entities. Each crystal acts as a point of light, reflecting and refracting, causing the piece to transform with the viewer's movement, the angle of observation, and the changing quality of light. He describes his method as a pointillism of light, a contemporary evolution of ancient mosaic traditions that finds profound beauty in the dialogue between darkness and brilliance.
