"Fragments of Our Existence" Brings Four Artists Together at Alexis Galleries

Fragments of Our Existence, a group exhibition, brings together Ebuka Anyiam, Celesta Jonah, Idris Olabode Opeyemi and Okediji Femi at Alexis Galleries in Lagos, Nigeria, this September. The exhibition opens on Saturday, September 19, 2026, and runs until October 3 at Alexis Galleries, 282 Akin Olugbade Street, off Idowu Martins, Victoria Island. 

Anyiam, known for his hyperrealist portraits, uses the human face as a powerful vehicle for emotion and recognition. His paintings are meticulously rendered, often drawing viewers into an intense encounter with his subjects. The portrait featured on the exhibition's promotional material, a young figure wrapped in a striped cloth against a vivid red background, immediately establishes the emotional intensity of the show. 

Celesta Jonah brings a more introspective sensibility to the exhibition. The Akwa Ibom-born oil painter explores themes around love, identity and retrospection, using colour and expressive portraiture to examine the inner lives of her subjects.

For Idris Olabode Opeyemi, clay becomes a language of reflection. Founder of Clay of Lagos, the artist works with ceramics, while drawing from Yoruba visual traditions. His vessels retain the evidence of the hand and the making process, turning functional forms into objects that invite contemplation. 

Okediji Femi approaches the human experience through sculpture and mixed media. Working across sculpture and sculptural furniture, the Oyo State-born artist has developed a practice particularly concerned with the female form, resilience and the stories that often remain unspoken. 

Although their materials and techniques differ, the four artists meet around a shared interest. That makes Fragments of Our Existence less about presenting four artists under one theme and more about seeing how different artistic languages can speak to the same questions. 

Fragments of Our Existence opens September 19 and runs through October 3, 2026, at Alexis Galleries, Victoria Island, Lagos. The gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm, with public viewing from 3pm to 6pm daily.
