The theme centres on change, memory, identity, social, and material. Russell-Brett contributes layered abstract paintings that shift in different light, while Jooste’s mixed-media works incorporate reclaimed textiles to speak to memory and adaptation. Van Wyk and Mentz round out the show with sculptures and works on paper that treat “becoming” as an unfinished process rather than a destination.
“None of us is static,” curator Tina Skukan said ahead of the opening. “This show embraces the messiness of transition.” It’s the gallery’s second major group show of 2026. Skukan is known for championing mid-career SA artists, and this line-up balances conceptual depth with accessible visuals.
The opening reception is on Sunday at 11:30am with all four artists in attendance. The gallery is open Tues-Sat, 9am-5pm.
