LINEISM: Where Lines Tell Stories — Nii Teiko Steps Into His First Solo Exhibition

A single line, drawn slowly enough, can hold a memory. That’s the premise Ghanaian visual artist Nii Teiko has spent years quietly building his practice around, and this October, he’s finally opening the door to it.

Lineism, Where Lines Tell Stories is Teiko's first solo exhibition, presented by Artist Alliance at the Artists Alliance Gallery, Omanye House, La, Accra, Ghana, opening Thursday, October 1, 2026. It's a body of work built entirely on the expressive power of the line, and on everything a line can carry when it moves with intention.

At the core of Teiko’s practice is a simple but powerful belief: a line can do more than define form. It can communicate.

“Lineism isn't just drawing with lines; it's a way of seeing, a way of feeling, a way of remembering,” the artist explains.

For Teiko, every line carries something with it, a memory, an emotion, an experience. Its movement becomes part of the story, and the accumulation of lines builds compositions that invite viewers to pause, look closely, and interpret for themselves. “The movement of a single line can say what paragraphs sometimes can't,” he says.

It’s this understanding that gives Lineism its identity. Rather than treating line as merely a technical building block of drawing or painting, Teiko places it at the very centre of his visual storytelling.

The exhibition marks a significant milestone in Teiko’s artistic journey. As his debut solo presentation, Lineism gives him the chance to bring his ideas together in one space, where audiences can encounter the work as a complete body of expression rather than scattered pieces.

He describes the show as an attempt to lay out his story “piece by piece, line by line”, inviting visitors not just to observe the work, but to experience it.

That relationship between artwork and audience matters deeply to Teiko. For him, a story is only complete once there's someone willing to receive it.

“A story needs someone to receive it,” he says, extending an open invitation to art lovers, collectors, enthusiasts, friends, colleagues, and anyone simply curious about his approach to art.

The invitation itself is simple: come, look, and experience the feeling of Lineism. The exhibition also carries personal, spiritual weight for the artist. While preparing for this first solo show, Teiko found himself returning again and again to Genesis 1:3: “And God said, let there be light, and there was light.”

The verse mirrors how he sees this moment, not as an arrival, but as a beginning. An unveiling of something that has lived within him for a long time.

“That's what this exhibition feels like for me, a beginning, a first light on a story I've carried quietly for a long time,” he says.

In that sense, Lineism is more than a debut. It’s an emergence, a personal visual language stepping out of the artist's private creative space and into public view for the first time.
