The title points to the idea that art carries the past into the present, and the sale is aimed at collectors and enthusiasts of modern and contemporary work from across the continent. Reaching a 12th edition also marks a long run for an auction house operating in Lagos.
Although the bidding itself will happen on the internet, SOGAL is giving
the public a chance to see the works in person first. Preview days will take
place at Signature Beyond Art Gallery, 107 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, on three
consecutive days. These are Wednesday, October 28, Thursday, October 29, and
Friday, October 30, 2026. Each day's viewing runs from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.,
which gives visitors six hours a day to walk through the gallery, study the
pieces and make up their minds.
Artworks can look different on a screen than in a room, so viewing a
piece before the sale lets a bidder judge its scale, surface, colour and
condition. The three-day schedule also lets people visit more than once, or bring advisers, friends or family, before committing.
The auction itself opens on Sunday, November 1, 2026. SOGAL has set the
live bidding window from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., a three-hour evening session.
The auction house stresses that online bidding is the only route into the sale,
so anyone who wants to buy must take part through the online platform. The organisers
did not explain how to register or which platform will be used, so interested
buyers should contact SOGAL directly for guidance well before the sale begins.
The announcement also has not yet named the
artists or individual lots on offer. Collectors will likely want that
information before the preview days, and SOGAL may release it closer to the
date.
A fully online format widens the pool of potential bidders. Someone who
cannot travel to Ikoyi on a weekday afternoon can still follow the sale from
wherever they are on the Sunday evening. At the same time, the preview days keep
a physical element for those who prefer to see art in person.
Echoes of Legacy adds to the busy art calendar in Lagos as
the year draws to a close.
