If
you want to feel the raw, unfiltered pulse of contemporary African creativity,
head over to Ikoyi. Running through June 30, 2026, Thought Pyramid Art
Centre is housing a phenomenal group exhibition. The contemporary African art
narrative takes centre stage this month as the Thought Pyramid Art Centre, in
collaboration with Tribes Art Africa Gallery (TAAG), officially
unveiled
its latest group exhibition, Here and Now:
Becoming, Identity, Memory, and Environment.
The
exhibition, which opened with a vibrant reception on June 13, 2026, brings together a dynamic collective of twenty
contemporary artists. Curated to explore the intricate forces shaping the
African experience, the showcase investigates the intersections of personal
transformation, cultural heritage, and the evolving environments that define
modern identity.
The
collection features a wide array of artistic practices, ranging from evocative
figurative painting and conceptual realism to mixed media and expressive
portraiture. The participating artists each bring a unique visual language
to the gallery walls.
Artists
such as Williams
Merenini, Olatide Amusa, and Frank Ndubuisi offer intimate psychological
explorations of the human form. They are joined by Bella Mfon, Tarikoro
Tamunofiri Henrietta, and Ella Ojadi, whose works delve into the nuances of
identity and belonging.

Conceptual
realism and contemporary storytelling are further enriched by the contributions
of Don
Okuchukwu (Moonlight
Art), Austin Dorgu, and Mark
Duke, who challenge viewers to look beyond the surface of
the image. Meanwhile, the mixed-media and narrative-driven works of Nelson Etok, Temitope
Victoria Ogunwale (Temi OG), and Moses Bamba provide a textured reflection on social realities and
cultural memory.
The dialogue continues with the evocative pieces of Esinulo
Chiamaka Praise, Wasiu Sunday Hassan, and Shina Ernest Odofin, each addressing
themes of resilience and collective experience. Completing this ambitious
showcase are David Okoi, Enoch Oyewole, Similoluwa Ilori, Kingsley Oghenekaro
Omodigono, and Adabekee Chisom Nichodemus, whose artistic voices ensure that Here and Now remains
a comprehensive reflection on the forces shaping the African present.
Co-curated
by Rodney Asikhia of TAAG Gallery and Jeff Ajueshi, this exhibition brings
together an elite cohort of emerging contemporary artists:
The
show is an explosive investigation into cultural identity, personal evolution,
and existential reality through diverse mixed-media presentations. By capturing
the immediate joys and struggles of modern life, the featured artists offer
viewers a mirror to their own experiences.
The
Thought Pyramid Art Centre is located at 96 Norman Williams Street, Ikoyi,
Lagos.
