Akunyili comes alive in cinemas

A Place in the Stars, a film inspired by the life and times of former NAFDAC boss, the late Dora Akunyili, tells a story of Kim Dakim (Gideon Okeke), a young lawyer who gets a client with a case that leaves him conflicted. He has information that can save many lives if he passes it on but he also stands to make millions of dollars if he doesn’t.

The film gives an account of drug trafficking in Nigeria and focuses on how fake and adulterated medical drugs are being traded for billions of dollars by dangerous men willing to kill to protect this money.

The problem is in Diokpa Okonwo (SegunArinze) the kingpin of the counterfeit medical drug trade who doesn’t play nice, a young man with a burning desire and nagging conscience sworn to get rich or die trying in a very corrupt country.

The film was produced and directed by renowned filmmaker, Steve Gukas, who hinted during the unveiling session that the film is “scheduled to premiere in Lagos, Abuja, South Africa, Kenya, London, New York as well as Houston, Texas.”

Gukas described the movie as a game changer in the Nigerian movie industry.  He added that the instrumentation for the film was done by a 90 piece orchestra recorded in Budapest while the soundtrack was done by Chocolate City artiste, Jeremiah Gyang.

Guests who were present during the unveiling session at Freedom Park, Lagos on Wednesday, August 20, had the privilege to view the making of the orchestra, the music video for the soundtrack as well as the trailer for the move.

The film features actors such as Segun Arinze, Gideon Okeke, Dejumo Lewis, Yemi Blaq, Femi Branch, Matilda Obaseki, Julian Mcdowell, Armajit Deu and Amaka Mgbor.

A Place in the Stars was produced by Native Filmwork, in conjunction with Jungle filmworks, Massive Entertainment, Consolidated Media Associates, Pepper Fruit Consult, Michel Angelo Productions and T-Large Media.
